This board has closed down *100+* fake eBay stamp sellers!

This board and its members can pat itself on the back for showing one local idiot that he is not smarter than many thousands of sets of vigilant philatelic eyes - worldwide. :)

Real "People Power" at work.

This thread started it all:

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=88&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

We have already had about 100 of his fake ebay stamp selling accounts closed down and de-registered, largely due to this board, and the fine information sharing stemming from this board in the threads below.

APTA have also got involved, and I am told have senior stamp collector contacts who work in the NSW Police, who also are placing colleagues on this fellow's tail.

Stamp dealers internationally have been briefed on the fellow and his fakes, and none of them will likely be conned into buying them, as they are now fully aware of what is out there.

Oxygen is starved. No outlets = no reason to keep offering the dud stamps, as he will get lumbered yet again.

A job well done by all concerned I'd say. :D

The ebay fake handles involved - near all now de-registered are:

A large group of collectors and dealers are now spotting when the new fake ID's pop up on ebay, discuss them informally via email, and posting the data here, and reporting them direct when it is agreed they are offering fakes.

In my view, these were all the one person at work pretty much. He has a criminal record, and has served long jail sentences for other offences. This person is a fully trained and qualified medico, and one wonders what drives someone that smart, into this kind of petty fraud.

He knows enough about stamps to make more money selling legitimate things, but this all seems to be a giant game to him - "fleece the bunnies".

Most fakes offered were Australian official perfins, and a small range of fake cancels and overprints were also involved, including a few NZ issues.

Some were fairly convincing, and many were appalling. Where some ebay buyers get their brains from one really wonders. When you see total obvious fake rubbish attracting a raft of high bids to $190 for comically bad things like this below, clearly cancelled a few days before it was listed, with a cheap rubber stamp pad, and a laughable rubber cancel:

Image

If ebay are given these other 100+ recently banned names when you see a new seller of fakes pop up - they will find via their highly sophisticated data matching software, some slight connections that exist, exist enabling them to ban the new ID.

ebay are the leading edge in this data matching ID, and despite this guy using a string of false names, PO box addresses, street addresses, paypal accounts, bank accounts, and phone numbers - he always gets caught by ebay.

An established dealer will be there next week, next month, next year - and usually next decade, if you end up with something you might want a refund on.

As we can all see, these ebay cons are always knocked out of business sooner rather than later, (often a week after the sale closes!) and often your only recourse is to pound sand for your $600 refund.

ebay in the PAST did not really want to know, and even paypal did not really want to know it seems. ebay and paypal make money EVERY time a sale occurs. Whether it is fake or not is not of any interest whatever to them.

What DOES interest them is refunding money via paypal under the much touted Buyer Guarantee. This crook has already cost ebay many $100,000s in refunds - more than he has ever paid in listing and final value fees, so they are now VERY interested in stopping him whenever he pops up. He has always long vanished with the dough, but THEY need to pay it back to the buyer of the forgeries.

This crook in 2015 took to listing up vast numbers of totally non-existent stamps and the clueless ebay Bunnies fell over themselves to "buy" them, pay for them and never see the stamps or refund most times, as if you are mailed a Registered envelope you sign for that contains a sheet of white paper YOU are the loser big time.

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=59312

Because of this, ebay now have set up a fast new portal JUST to report suspected sellers of forged stamps at - https://www.tinyurl.com/ebayfakes - also found at - https://www.ebay.com/scw - there is space for 10,000 characters in your reply, so all the relevant info can be added. Unlike most ebay complaint forms that allow 100 characters etc.

Perhaps remind ebay something like this when you list all the fakes names connected with a new fake seller:

The sum of PayPal charge-backs involved with these HUNDRED+ stamp forger accounts listed here must be quite significant already, and each time ebay allows them to trade under a new fake ID, it will add to the eventual $$$$ loss to ebay via charge-backs when buyers discover the stamps they bought are fake, and later demand refunds from PayPal, from a by then de-listed seller.

And inaction will mean that ebay is seen more and more by those in the stamp buying community as a totally unsafe and unwise place to buy stamps, costing ebay even more revenue as buyers go to other sites and mainstream dealers who offer a guarantee of genuineness.

If you see a new ebay seller pop up listing forged 'OS' perfins, and 1937 and 1946 Omnibus "Specimen" set perfins etc, and Australia related overprints, start a new thread below and other members can offer their views. Or email admin[at]stampboards.com

You CAN happily post to the same thread found at: :D

Errant medico brought to heel?

Post by kilbydog »

I'm only a newbie to this forum but was reading with interest the progression of events leading to multiple Ebay accounts being closed for our "friend" modlink2002 et al.

It goes back a long time now but I noticed that Glen refers to the fiend as a medico (Apr 07) but didn't manage to see where the link was made. Just wondering if someone who was ripped off thought of making a complaint to the Medical Board of the appropriate State? ?NSW

I believe that such a substantiated claim against the gent would be rather 'hard-hitting' as all adverse findings are made public and it could affect registration which would have a much bigger effect on the hip pocket than stopping a few Ebay postings. Then again, if he does have the type of history intimated, maybe it wouldn't hurt too much.....

Thanks for all the great advice from those on the forum. I'll think twice before publicly ridiculing myself on Ebay :-)

Mod - Dead link deleted

Our old faker friend georgeomighty and various other aliases - all of them banned long ago from ebay.

All 100% fake cancels or overprints (or both) in my view.

I am doing an urgent and time consuming job right now, and have no spare time.

Can someone please take a photobucket scan of all this nonsense before ebay bans him, and post it here for posterity. and the description he uses on each one.

As well as clearly forged junk he has recently sold like this rubbish for $86;

Hi Glen,

You may already be aware of a ebay trader selling stamps that he/she claimed to have purchased from you. Two of the lots are the 5d Sir John Monash and the 7c Humbug Fish, both are listed as having printing faults.

The trader goes by "BALTANTIQ". You may wish to follow up this matter with EBAY.

I wish to compliment the vigilance of the stampboards community as they managed not only to bring me to this wonderful forum but to alert me to a forgery that I bought unknowingly on the magic world of EBAY.

I then when back through all my purchases - as I keep pretty good records - and matched another of "medics" alter egos.

I was stung by BALTANTIQ who I (along with others) lodged formal complaints and he has been removed.

I was also stung months ago by VEOTELOD20

Anyway, I have learn't my lesson to be much more careful and a bit less trusting

Lisa,

I just went onto ebay and had a look at an item that i bought from BALTANQ and it gives me :

"This listing (2502xxxxxxxx) has been removed or is no longer available."eBay Note: This user is no longer registered on eBay.

At least he is gone for now.

I registered a complaint but all I got from EBAY was the line that it is not their fault ie buyer beware or more bluntly selling medium will take NO responsibility so go away!

You live and learn.

Sadly you got a staffer who was not aware of the VERY clear rules ebay NOW have re stamp forgeries, which say:

------------------------

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-stamps.html

Selling of Stamps

eBay does not permit the sale of stamps that are fraudulent or improperly described. Sellers who knowingly fail to disclose information about the authenticity of a stamp, alterations to the stamp, or other information that might have a material impact on the stamp's value may be reported to the American Philatelic Society.

If the stamp is a forgery, fake, reproduction or facsimile:

it must be clearly and indelibly marked as such

a clear image of this mark must be included

it must be clearly stated in the title and/or description

If unsure of the origin or authenticity of the stamp, please state this clearly in the listing. Do not sell an item "As Is" regarding its authenticity.

Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:

Listing cancellation

Limits on account privileges

Account suspension

Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings

Loss of PowerSeller status

---------------------

As well as this similar but different worded rule

---------------------

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/currstamps.html

Counterfeit Currency and Stamps

All forged stamps, facsimiles, and reproductions may be listed but need to be clearly and indelibly marked as such on either the front or back of the stamp. See "Additional Information" for more details.

Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:

Listing cancellation

Limits on account privileges

Account suspension

Forfeit of ebay fees on cancelled listings

Loss of PowerSeller status

--------------------

Any seller on ebay listing stamps or overprints or perfins that are forged must indelibly mark them thus on front and/or back.

Offering them without such markings can see the sellers removed in hours, if reported citing the above two VERY clear ebay policies.

Mention these two rules when you report them, and the ebay staffer can cancel accounts on the spot, citing these great new rules.

* * * *

As noted by others - ebay now have set up a fast new portal JUST to report suspected sellers of forged stamps at - http://www.tinyurl.com/ebayfakes - also found at - http://www.ebay.com/scw- there is space for 10,000 characters in your reply, so all the relevant info can be added. Unlike most ebay complaint forms that allow 100 characters etc.

Thanks world stamps however I had already purchased the stamps before being alerted to the fact that they were fakes. ie the horse has bolted with the cash!

He is now closed down and I have the fakes which I have so marked. Maybe in the future they will be know as the 2008 Sydney forgeries and be worth slightly more than toilet paper?

Hi,

This is my very first post, and I have to say congratulations to all members of the stamp board closing down these horrible, fake, dodgy dealers!

They are a pain for all novice stamp collector's (like me), but this board has been so useful, I've been slowly collecting information and research. I use to collect when I was a kid but stopped for about 15years and now want to really get into it!

Any advice about avoiding dodgy dealers and what makes a stamp fake would be much appreciated. Otherwise, I've been reading the posts :)

Rammy

P.S. I'm interested in kangaroos, KGV and Pre-Decimal Australian Stamps
Thanks :)
Ramona

Interested in Kangaroo, KGV and any Australian Pre-decimal stamps with old currency on them!

It is all very fine to crow about all these fake accounts that were closed.

It would however be far more useful to name any current names that this forger(s) are using and maybe even name them personally and give their addresses if these are known.

I feel that this would be far more useful.

Maybe even cut off their sources of supply by naming any auction houses they buy from, thus causing the auctioneers to reject them as customers in the future.

This rot has got to be addressed before it destroys our hobby

You haven't found these three threads on his current identities. He has shut down two of them and is persisting with stamps_fishing.

I agree it would be most useful info for the forgers to be appraised of.

For a brand new member your few posts have been rather interesting many here have commented.

That's a good idea Marty. Get off your bum and help, by researching and adding to the discussion rather than just criticising those who have already done a lot of work. The more the merrier, as after all, we really all do not have 24/7 to do this sort of thing. So chip in and make some contributions yourself.

If you are passionate about this, as you appear to be, then do something about it, and don't sit around waiting for others to spoon feed you. Help fight the fight.

More "useful" still, in my opinion, would be to pass on details of their sales and income to the relevant tax authorities.

I want to help the fight. But all these conmen do is just move on to new ebay names and continue to fleece the unsuspecting.

Surely "people power" can get ebay to permanently ban them immediately.

Why doesn't the APTA make a strong stand. Why are Blue Owls, joanne etc and others allowed to carry on business on ebay?

The only way to stop these crooks is to have actual criminal charges laid that have an excellent chance of conviction. This is the way to stop them. It will act as a deterant for future offenders as well.

Sarpy, Benjamin and Jeffreys were jailed, so have the laws changed that much?

Also if as you say the tax man might be interested, this would indicate that the amounts involved would be in the tens of thousands of dollars (maybe more).

If we are talking about these figures then surely the police will get involved.

Come on folks, lets show some backbone and get them where it hurts.

OK, go for it. A lot of people have tried, and it is already documented on the Boards. But since you seem to feel so passionately about it, you must have a solution that has not been tried already. So, it is in your court.

I would not publish someones real name (see second sentence) and would never publish their real address (particularly if its a home address) only ever a business or office address.

I would only ever use the real name IF and WHEN you have irreffutable proof of criminal activity. Then I would take it all to the authorites (Police/Fair Trading/ATO) and let them handle it.

We are able to shut down and move on inummerable dodgy sellers on ebay and other sites already by exposing their user names and handles to warn and publicy expose their activities.

To be honest "to lay criminal charges against them", someone who has been wronged is going to have to jump up and down and be willing to press charges. It would be cheaper if a group of claimants pressed charges as its going to cost money to proceed.

At the moment Internet naming and proving and shaming would seem the most effective way of stopping them. And it is working. With enough evidence eBay and others do react.

How is it "working"?

No sooner is one name shut down before another 3 or more turn up.

And his last three names are still operating.

He probably saves on paying his ebay fees once we manage to shut him down anyway.

There is much irrefutable proof of forgeries (especially with before and after scans), shill bidding, same items sold by different sellers (really the same seller) etc.

Yet everyone has a feelgood attitude because we exposed a few forgeries and had some success in closing some names in the past.

When was the last time we all managed to close on his names down? Not in recent memory if I can recall correctly.

God knows how much he is selling outside of ebay that we have no way of monitoring.

So come on folks, lets get tough and get the APTA to show some backbone and to make this a proper criminal matter and force ebay to comply.

Earlier in this thread it was mentioned that:

APTA have also got involved, and I am told have senior stamp collector contacts who work in the NSW Police who also are placing colleagues on this fellow's tail.

So what happened? From the looks of things very little.

Obviously the police and the APTA don't care otherwise he would not still be operating.

Come on folks, lets stop patting ourselves on the back and living in ignorant bliss, and actually try to work out something that will actually stop these scammers.

This is an EBAY problem - the members of this stampboard have to stand on their heads and sqeal like chickens before Ebay even lift a finger to help get rid of the con-men.

This is where YOU come in, and approach Ebay DIRECTLY - maybe if you did all your ranting and raving to THEM, maybe something good may come of it.

Yes I have done all that.

Ebay seem just not to care. No one there is a stamp collector. They seem to be more worried about fake Gucci and Versace items.

I tried explaining to the about fake perfins and they must have thought that I was the crazy one.

I also tried to explain this to an acquaintance who is a detective in the NSW Fraud Squad and he could not get his head around some people putting holes in stamps or putting new letters on stamps (overprinting to us).

He said that unless the "fraud" involves over a million dollars, it does not fit into what they will investigate.

He told me I should to the Dept of Fair Trading and to instigate legal action against the culprits.

In other words: "GOOD LUCK" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was reading some older threads and I came across gregbear who tried to get this conman.

The conmen are still there. Something stringer must be done!!!!!!!!!!

Calling the Dept of Fair Trading or the ATO or the Police or .. well pretty much anyone will do nothing.

I imagine the NSW Fraud Squad are far too busy to do anything about shill bidding which is HARD to accurately prove anyway. eBay don't even care and won't realise info to anyone, so what hope is there of stopping shill bidding?

If something looks dodgy, post here and ask. It's all you can do.

Do you think your local police station is going to be interested that someone called nsb13579 is selling non genuine Kingsford Smith OS Overprints on eBay???

Stamp collectors care, and rightly so. But trying to get anyone else even remotely interested would be near impossible. Why not call Current Affair or Today Tonight if you feel so strongly about it? They won't care. What % of Australian's even collect stamps?

The truth is that REPORTING anything dodgy to eBay and posting on threads here usernames and examples of fake trash is the only productive thing collectors can do.

Stampboards has saved a LOT OF MONEY for collectors who would've purchased something off an online auction, and then read here and made the wise decision not to.

You seem to be very quick to demand that APTA do something about Joanne, etc.

Tell us what they should do, remembering none of those traders on ebay that you mention are members of APTA..... Blue Owl is not longer a member.

So lets hear your answers, you have said quite a bit but honestly nothing that this board has not heard before.

To the doubting thomases.
People power at work.
Ebayers obviously read stampboards and highlighting the work of the forger is obviously educating people and having an effect.

How do we know this? unistamps feedback was quickly set to private as was nsb13579. (You can not sell while your feedback is set to private) He battled on with stamps_fishing but now has nothing listed for sale after the last disappointing listings.

As a salute to the members here, the forger has changed the name of nsb13579.
Image
I will take that as a compliment for work well done.

Spot the probable forgeries and re-gums in a selection from his last sale and note the disappointing prices. As usual they were private auctions and there is no telling whether shill bids were resposible for most or any of those prices achieved.

Well, put up, or shut up. Every thread on the cons has provided documented evidence as to who (eBay identity) what (scans and evidence - you might want to dwell on that word) and bidding history (shills), where available.

You have simply provided hot air. No names, no evidence, no facts. Just motherhood statements as to how wonderful you are in your own mind. OK, I will give a round of applause. You are a legend in your own lunchtime.

And if that is the best you can do, keep puffing up your stomach, and providing more hot air, which is apparently coming out of a different orifice than your mouth, and often smells and makes a bit of noise. You are not helping at all, and are part of the problem.

Traralgon3844 & Norm,

Are you living in your own little rosy world?

This conman is laughing at you.

He probably changed his name to stampsboard as an affront to you. He is probably saying that you can't stop him and never will.

Unfortunately, he is right. Despite all the efforts of this board he is still there.

And apparantely still prospering

Tralalgon, what feelgood dreamworld do you live in? How can you say it is testimony for a job well done? You just keep taking those happy pills and everything will be alright in your mind. And after all isn't that the most important thing, living in ignorant bliss.

Tralalgon, are you not a retired police officer. Then why with all your legal knowledge and experience have you not been at least able to advise of how to get rid of this charlatan? It is because you are totally powerless to do anything other than carry on about how "people power" is working (at least in your mind).

In reality, he is still out there with more new names which have not been idebtified yet and is probably selling ten times more to bunnies outside of ebay.

I have tried to stop him and I have kept hitting brick walls.

This spiv's actions are affecting everyone including myself and my collection. It irks me to keep seeing him reappearing on ebay and basically shoving it in our faces.

It irks me even more to see everyone basking in some past forlon glory about shutting down some names and totally ignoring what is happenning now.

It is all very good to live in the past and go on names which are now totally irrelavnt. That is like naming people like Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin as people to avoid dealing with.

So come folks, lets get real and work out some positive means to eliminate this scourge on our wonderful hobby.

Starving is more like it.

All his 3 main accounts are selling zero stamps right now, and that has been the case for a while.

After funding refunds fro those who have now discovered they bought forged stamps and send them back via the Paypal Buyer Protection policy. Negative revenue flow is not a bright business model.

The eagle eyes efforts of those here are responsible.

Yes he can start new accounts, but new accounts on ebay founder with sales, until they get a few 100 feedbacks up.

That takes a great deal of time.

And are spotted by those here pretty fast when they start selling.

If he worked out his hourly return from doing that, he'd be better off going back to flipping Burgers at Maccas.

Burger flippers do not live in constant fear of a 6am dawn raid by the Fraud Squad.

Yes ebayer

You too live in fantasyland.

Who are you trying to convince? Me, you or the forger?

And always the flipping burger scenario. Maybe if you repeat often enough enough the crook might actually start looking for a job at Macdonalds.

Even I know that you are not THAT naive.

All this crook does is sell one item in the month and he makes more than flipping burgers fulltime for the same period. Come on ebayer, start living in the real world.

If what you are saying is true then he would left ebay years ago. Yes folks, he has been at it for years.

Also your theory for funding refunds does no hold water. He probably has another 50 names ready to go or more that likely already going. Also he probably does not give refunds and probably doesnt even pay his ebay fees once one of his names is exposed. So much for your idea of a business model.

We are all letting him get inside our heads especially you lot. Everyone is spending considerable time to get this rogue. How much is your time worth ebayer? Perhaps you would be better off flippng burgers, as you so elequaintly put it.

Whatever happened to Harry Debruins effort in the time consuming job in recording all his purchases so we can have a record of unaltered stamps for the future that he might forge? I'll tell what happened to it...... It is buried deep in the past in some long forgotten thread that his hard to get to. A noble effort Harry but all to no avail.

Come folks lets get seriious

Paypal does the refund for the forged goods stamps, and takes those funds directly from his Paypal account. That is the sweet part. Takes the buyer 30 seconds to open the dispute - and they will ALWAYS win - as it costs Paypal zero.

And takes the forger a half hour to respond - to a matter they will lose EVERY time. The more retuned goods as fakes that are logged to that account history, the faster he will lose.

So while the accounts are still active, even when not selling - as is the case now, he bleeds money like a river, and can't do a thing about it.

More money going out than coming is is a reality even the dumbest Crim can see is not a great business plan.

If there is no money in the account, Paypal are authorised (by all paypal users in fine print you agree to) to take it from your linked bank and/or credit card accounts.

In the old days when Paypal was not compulsory, I agree the buyer of fakes getting a refund via a bank payment was often near impossible. Now most folks pay via Paypal at close of sale, so Forgers get trapped when refunds are sought.

LOSE-LOSE for forgers. Paypal has the perfect business model - THEY never lose.

Ebayer

I envy you. I wish I could live in your world and I would live in ignorant bliss.

By the time that paypal respond, this crook has withdrawn the money both out of his paypal and normal bank accounts (of which he must have dozens).

Also do you think that the crook is going to send out any stamps until after the money has cleared his paypal and normal accounts. So how are the bunnies going to know that they have been duped until they get the stamps?

Remember that it takes at least many days, more than likely weeks before the bunnies find out if they have been dudded (assuming in fact that they ever find out). In the meantime they are probably spending much more with the fraudster outside of ebay.

He gets more money to fund his activities, more time to set up more evay and other bank accounts and the ability to stock up on more stamps to "improve".

Is this your idea of a "not a great business plan". ebayer?

The forger is winning. In fact he is so far ahead that all we can do is some damage control.

Wishful thinking on our part is not going to get results. Maybe it will get a feelgood response in your head ebayer, BUT REALITY IS REALITY!!!!!!!!!!

Once again folks lets live in the REAL WORLD

You are posting as if you are the faker. Trying to convince yourself all is well. Hmmm.

It is not.

Please READ my post above. THEY are the "real world" here.

Paypal takes HIS money.

Via a bank account or credit card if they have to. You can't not have money in most credit cards.

And even if both have a zero balance, they simply escrow the next $500 or $1000 or whatever the refund is, from FUTURE sales.

These Cons take months and 100s of hours to build an a high feedback account and they want to keep selling through them.

Also ebay and paypal realise the accounts that are linked, whether they admit it or not, so they will simply remove funds from one of the others.

And close the lot down in the process, if they are being jerked around re monies.

You can't win against ebay and paypal when you plan to keep on selling there - they hold ALL the cards, and you have zero idea of when they will act, and in what way.

Ebayer

You are the one who is getting your feathers ruffled.

To go as low as to imply that I am the faker. Well that says it all.

I know the problems with paypal as I have tried to retrieve money from the faker with no success. Paypal wanted me to send the item back etc etc.
Also ebay and paypal realise the accounts that are linked, whether they admit it or not, so they will simply remove funds from one of the others.
Yeah right, they will remove money from a zero balance account. Remember mainstream banks don't recognise paypal as one of their own and any unauthorised withdrawals by Paypal do get reversed by the customer.

So ebayer, just because ebay and paypal have got your number, it does not mean that they are not being manipulated. Just because they have you fooled, it does not mean that it is the same for all.

So please ebayer, GET REAL.

Please post something positive and ridding us of these conmen and stop patting yourself on the back and please stop believing in your own BS>

Then we might achieve something that is lasting.

For the sake of our wonderful hobby ebayer, please be realistic and positive.

You seems still trying to convince YOURSELF all is well.

It is not. Or you would not be posting here.

Banks will not touch the matter as you AGREE when using PayPal that is what will occur if you owe PayPal money. The banks are not interested, as Paypal agreement is watertight.

Don't agree, and you have no Paypal account. They are not fools.

And read the points below again - even if there are zero funds they simply escrow the PayPal payments from future purchases. They always win.

And worst of all, the faker has no idea WHEN they will act so you can't have zero balances all the time.

And coming in all the time, some of which are from bank accounts so they are escrowed for several days by PayPal before seller can get his hands on the funds. In some cases held in "trust" for weeks.

Mostly so Paypal can earn interest on loaning out your money of course. However in cases like this it is a huge plus for them, as there is usually cleared funds money sitting there they can grab.

E-V-I-D-E-N-C-E.
1. A thing or things helpful in forming a conclusion or judgment: The broken window was evidence that a burglary had taken place. Scientists weigh the evidence for and against a hypothesis.

2. Something indicative; an outward sign: evidence of grief on a mourner's face.

3. Law The documentary or oral statements and the material objects admissible as testimony in a court of law.
You have not offered anything positive, even after being asked. You have not done anything whatsoever. You have simply blown more hot air. What a pathetic facade you are putting on. You don't, for whatever reason, want to help at all, you just want to muddy the waters with your pathetic whining about the "they" who should do something.

You are part of the "they" and have not done a damn thing. All you have done is moan.
